Presenting Jehovah Jesus as Saviour

A favorite verse:  Acts 4:12 “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other NAME under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

What “men” are being referenced in this verse?

Acts 10:43 “To HIM give ALL THE PROPHETS witness, that through HIS NAME whosoever believeth in HIM shall receive remission of sins.”

Without any doubt to Christian or Jew we are all believing in the Promised Jewish Messiah.  To the Christians HE has already come, to the Jews they yet wait for the powerful ruling MESSIAH / Saviour to come.  As Christians or N.T. believers we too believe Messiah shall return to rule and reign upon the earth --- but we even look forward to ruling with HIM when that time comes.

Let there be NO doubt, for those of us who are putting our FAITH, TRUST, and HOPE in the only saviour of the world.  That Christ was born in Israel of a virgin in fulfillment of the prophecy in Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

Immanuel – there is a nice Jewish name for the Messiah.  Every Jewish name has a distinct meaning, unlike English, Latin, or Greek names.  Do you know what Immanuel means?  We need to let the Bible interpret the Bible instead of our traditions being the interpretation.  Otherwise we can end up like the Jewish people rejecting TRUTH to hold to our traditions.  The fulfillment of Isaiah 7:14 is recorded for us in Matthew 1:23 “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Within this Hebrew name “Immanuel” we see that MESSIAH is in fact, God.  And that HE came to earth as a baby to be WITH US.  Christ came to earth to save all man kind by teaching us the TRUTH directly from the Father.  Each of us needs to be “taught of God.”  Messiah said in John 6:45 “It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God.  Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.”  Notice again – It is written in the prophets.  Acts 10:43 …ALL THE PROPHETS witness, that through HIS NAME whosoever believeth in HIM shall receive remission of sins.

“HIS NAME” is of special interest to “ALL THE PROPHETS”.  Note it was not an issue of tradition or the Jews wouldn’t have rejected their MESSIAH.  Surely their MESSIAH came in the name designated by God Almighty.  Didn’t HE????

Here is a verse wrote about 700 years before Christ was born in Bethlehem. Proverbs 30:4 “WHO hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? Who hath gathered the wind in his fists?  Who hath bound the waters in a garment?  Who hath established all the ends of the earth?  What is HIS NAME, and what is HIS son’s name, IF THOU CANST TELL?”

Dear friend have you ever ask yourself this question?  I question, “IF YOU CAN TELL?”

We live in a day of tradition and English is the international language of the skies for all pilots.  Chinese, Russian, African, Europeans all want to learn how to read, write, and speak English.  English is the king language, you might say, in the world just as Latin was during the Roman Empire and Greek before that time.  I wonder if we could agree that HEBREW is the king’s language since the initial revelation (the O.T.) came in the Hebrew language.  Furthermore the Hebrew culture was and is the culture of which the entire Bible both O.T. and N.T. is coached in.  Without a Hebrew cultural understanding it is virtually impossible to understand the Bible!

Our education influences our thinking and therefore our understanding so much.  And we don’t even know it many times.  Like “Immanuel or Emmanuel” does any of these letters or sounds relate in your thinking as Hebrew or Jewish?  Can you find the word, “God” in Hebrew in the letters/sound in “Immanuel or Emmanuel”?   “el” at the end means "God" (Immanuel or Emmanuel).

Without specialized study our English answer is NO.  It’s not in our culture or teaching.  It’s foreign to our understanding.  WHY, since it was the Hebrew people, the nation of Israel, and the Jewish nationality that brought us our Saviour that we say, “we love and cherish”?  BECAUSE, the entire world is basically opposed to Israel, the Jewish people, and the Hebrew language and culture.

We find our natural fleshly responses hostile to anything foreign especially Jewish if we are not truly Real Christians. While the Roman Catholic Church favors Latin instead of Hebrew thought.  Just as most Protestant ministers are educated in Greek and taught to think in Greek and Western ways instead of Eastern Hebrew ways.   We are therefore missing the Hebrew Roots and culture to correctly understand the Bible’s deeper meanings including those of the N.T.

Egypt, Greek, and Roman are the oppressing heathen powers represented in the scriptures.  It’s ironic that the first foreign language translation of the Hebrew O.T. comes out of Egypt but in the Greek language ordered by a heathen ruler who used and took to himself the title, “Savior”,  Soter.  Yes, “Soter” is Greek for Saviour.  This information comes from the LXX Greek O.T. called the Septuagint dated between 284 and 247 B.C.

You cannot break a people, or neutralize their clannishness, unless you first neutralize their common language.  WHY?  Because people “think” via language.  This was the heathen ruler’s agenda for having the O.T. in Greek instead of Hebrew.  The Greeks were not converting to Judaism.   The words, the names, the phrases, all carry with them cultural meaning and definition.  Every translation departs from the full original culture backed meanings and some losses are incurred.  Many translators admit this in their preface of their Bible translation.  NOTE: THE NAME in question, “and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?”  Skewed by culture, language, pronunciation, and spelling every time an attempt is made to make another equal to what God gave.

From Proverbs 30:4 and Acts 10:43 is it fair to conclude that Christ would have a genuine HEBREW name?  Or would the Jews answer Proverbs 30:4 in Egyptian, English, Latin or Greek?  There wasn’t even a Greek translation of the O.T. until more than 400 years later.  So Proverbs 30:4 obviously had a Hebrew answer.  Putting that more strongly, Proverbs 30:4 had only a Hebrew answer.  It was from this Hebrew culture, from the Hebrew race (Jewish race), Hebrew language, from this Hebrew country (Israel) which the Saviour would be born.

Instead of Bible college collecting English Bibles is a great learning method.  You pick up less tradition and study to show yourself approved to God, instead of the denominational doctrine statement.  Also your thinking is not controlled by indoctrination of Western/Greek thought quite as badly.  Though I confess our English Bibles are full of Western/Greek culture and thought instead of Hebrew culture and thought.  One must seek out English sources to learn Hebrew culture and thought today.  Obviously today’s Hebrew thought does contain some jet lag being 2000 years later.  Therefore we are subject to some Hebrew traditions like suppressing THE NAME.  But we have just as many false Greek traditions and wrong ideas because of the cultural shift.   So we still need to weed what we read.  Anyway back to bible collecting.

The English Geneva Bible 1560 was my first purchase and to my horrors it did not contain the name of Jesus. The letter “J” was an English invention of the 18th century and is not a letter in the original Hebrew or Koine Greek of the New Testament copies. Instead the Geneva 1560 retained the Latin “I” Iesus.  It’s important to note that the Latin “I” is the English “Y” sound.  Humm… but I thought HIS name was the same yesterday, and to-day, and for ever.?  It is.  It just might be something different than what we have been taught or read.  Well, I believe Hebrews 13:8 is a correct thought and statement.  We just MISSED the NAME of the book  HEBREWs.   THE  NAME  answer that is the same yesterday, and to-day, and for ever…  for ever settled in heaven  (Psa.119:89) is a HEBREW  NAME.  Not an English name, not a Greek name, not an Egyptian name, not a Latin name that we have learned from tradition… and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?  It’s a Hebrew name.  It’s a Hebrew pronunciation.  It’s of Hebrew origin.  NOT Greek or Latin or English.

Now you are either ready to know the answer or ready to reject the real NAME to keep your traditions.  Study to show yourself approved to God or man?  Which will it be, for you, friend?  Perhaps you need to read all this again, because we are talking about the most important name in the universe of all time.  Not the passing sands of the tradition of men being politically correct or doctrinally correct according to your peers.  There is a final JUDGE and if you would like to know HIS NAME keep reading.

We are Protestant and realize that it really was the Roman Catholics that gave us the name, Jesus.  So lets see if they admit the LATIN and GREEK origin of their favorite name.  Well what do the Roman Catholics have to say about it?

Origin of the Name of Jesus Christ

In this article, we shall consider the two words which compose the Sacred Name.

JESUS

The word Jesus is the Latin form of the Greek Iesous, which in turn is the transliteration of the Hebrew Jeshua, or Joshua, or again Jehoshua, meaning "Jehovah is salvation." Though the name in one form or another occurs frequently in the Old Testament, it was not borne by a person of prominence between the time of Josue, the son of Nun and Josue, the high priest in the days of Zorobabel. It was also the name of the author of Ecclesiaticus of one of Christ's ancestors mentioned in the genealogy, found in the Third Gospel (Luke, iii, 29), and one of the St. Paul's companions (Col., iv, 11). During the Hellenizing period, Jason, a purely Greek analogon of Jesus, appears to have been adopted by many ( I Mach., viii, 17; xii, 16; xiv, 22; II Mach., i, 7; ii, 24; iv, 7 26; v, 5 10; Acts, xvii, 5 9; Rom., xvi, 21). The Greek name is connected with verb iasthai, to heal; it is therefore, not surprising that some of the Greek Fathers allied the word Jesus with same root (Euseb., "Dem. Ev.", IV; cf. Acts, ix, 34; x., 38). Though about the time of Christ the name Jesus appears to have been fairly common (Jos., "Ant.", XV, ix, 2; XVII, xiii, 1; XX, ix, 1; "Bel. Jud.", III, ix, 7; IV, iii, 9; VI, v, 5; "Vit.", 22) it was imposed on our Lord by God's express order (Luke, i, 31; Matt., i, 21), to foreshow that the Child was destined to "save his people from their sins." Philo ("De Mutt. Nom.", 21) is therefore, right when he explains Iesous as meaning soteria kyrion; Eusebius (Dem., Ev., IV, ad fin.; P. G., XXII, 333) gives the meaning Theou soterion; while St. Cyril of Jerusalem interprets the word as equivalent to soter (Cat., x, 13; P.G., XXXIII, 677). This last writer, however, appears to agree with Clement of Alexandria in considering the word Iesous as of Greek origin (Paedag., III, xii; P. G., VIII, 677); St. Chrysostom emphasizes again the Hebrew derivation of the word and its meaning soter (Hom., ii, 2), thus agreeing with the exegesis of the angel speaking to St. Joseph (Matt., i, 21).

This article makes the statement of two words composing the Sacred Name.  No doubt they refer to Jesus and Christ.  The comments on Jesus follow, but now for the word, Christ.  This writer has no problem with the translation of "Christ", for the Greek "Christos", for the Hebrew "Messiah", which all words simply mean "anointed".  Nor is it a name, but an adjective of which "Jesus" it was, since many men were named the same name as the Saviour... But NONE of them were YaHWeH incarnate or Emmanuel (God with us).  Hence the Saviour was "Jesus" the Christ or Jesus Christ or Christ Jesus according to the Anglo-Saxon tradition.  Making HIM the anointed ONE.  Therefore Christ was not a name per say but a title and description to clarify which "Jesus" we are referring to.  For the scripture says, "Jesus who is Christ".  2Tim.2:19 & 1Peter4:14 could be used to argue that Christ is a name, "the name of Christ".  Just as in the name of the Butcher, or in the name of the Jailer, or in the name of any profession... we might know a particular person well enough to refer to them only by their trade in our small town.  But that does not disannul their proper given name required on their check for payment at the local bank.  Though it be understood by those which know the person well enough to only refer to them by an adjective used by many others.  Christ  i.e. "anointed" is applied to  many others than God in the scriptures... kings, judges, prophets to list some. However there is no argument that our Saviour is the chief and most anointed of all.

Even R.C. Sproul of Ligonier Ministries and Renewing Your Mind preaches and admits that the word, "Christ" of and in itself if NOT a NAME in his tape, The Names of Christ, and booklet, Who is Jesus?  Yet he is weak on maintaining the Hebrew transliteration of Christ's proper name.

Now for some comments on the name Jesus:  It is interesting that they attempted to hide the linkage of Anglo-Saxon name Joshua, son of Nunn  as the same identical original HEBREW word that the name of the Saviour would have been in Hebrew. And highlighted in yellow above we see the meaning was slowly melted down to just soter = saviour.  Where at the top of the article they clearly knowledge the linkage to Jehovah’s name or YaHWeH’s name to be correct. This is the real key when looking at the Hebrew letters.  YaHWeH (miss translated as Jehovah) is four Hebrew vowels letters according to the historian Josephus…..   The Saviour’s name is five Hebrew letters of which the first three are the same as those in the Father’s name, YaHWe.  This is the reason why the Son’s name Joshua (YaHWe-shua) contains the Father’s name, or as is stated in John 5:43 “I am come IN MY FATHER’S NAME.”  HE literally did, just as we name our sons by our last name, so the Father named His Son with HIS NAME.  The name, Jesus, fails to keep this precious linkage.  Instead you see they used Greek words kyrion and Theou  substituted for the Hebrew name YaHWeH by their chosen substitutes of  Kurio (Lord) and Theo (God).  Both Lord and God being words in the Hebrew separate from the Greek above and separate from the proper name of YaHWeH. Psalm 83:18

Nor does the nick name of Jesus really mean “saviour” except by association of usage in the Biblical text, first beginning in the eighteenth century.  Because Greek for saviour is “soter” according to Strongs and Latin for saviour is “salvator” according to the World Book Encyclopedia Dictionary.  The cover-up has now been running for hundreds of years more than a thousand... So please don't be surprised if it sounds foreign to you the first time you hear it.  YaHWeH was put 6,825+ times in the Old Testament alone, but someone didn't want you to know that, did they?

So lets look at the Hebrew letters now.

You do say, Halleluyah, don't you?
